2023 Best Of Wedding and Family Portrait Photography

Here are some of my 2023 best wedding photos, as well as a few great engagement sessions and family portraits. As we stride into 2024, I am taking a moment (or two) to reflect on 2023. After the wild year of weddings in 2022 where it felt like people were playing catch up, 2023 was much more mellow. I feel like people are trying to recenter and regain their footing after the pandemic.

Great Bay Area Wedding Venues

I continued to work at some of my favorite venues like San Francisco City Hall, Spring Ranch in Mendocino, Pizzaiolo in Oakland, and the Piedmont Community Hall, and some exceptional venues that I hadn’t worked before. I am behind in my blogging, but I look forward to catching up and sharing some of these incredible Bay Area venues. Sand Rock Farm in Santa Cruz and The Brambles in Mendocino were probably my two favorite new (to me) venues.

Amazing Bay Area Wedding Vendors

Working with great vendors reaffirmed my belief that a strong team can turn a wedding from good to fantastic. I worked with Willa Via for the first time in November, and again in December on two unforgettable weddings. She is a rad event planner. I was fortunate to work with Madeline Hurst from Fern Foot Events on three of the weddings I shot in Mendocino. Early in the year, I got to work with my neighbor, Alyson Vitt from Flower and Forage. Loved her work on the sweet wedding at Robert’s Regional Recreation Area/ Pizzaiolo. Feel free to reach out if you feel overwhelmed by all the vendor options. I have a rad list of Bay Area wedding vendors that I would be happy to share with you.

Engagement and Family Portraits

Connecting with folks before their weddings is great. Engagement sessions are a nice way to work through some of the nervousness about being photographed. And after you are married and start expanding your family, it is great to stay connected. Life is uncertain, and family portraits capture fun moments. I offered mini-family portrait sessions for the first time in 2023, and it was a great success.

The Little Details

While I mainly focus on the people at a wedding, I do enjoy capturing the little details. People work hard on those little details, and they too, are ephemeral. They add to the story of the day, and sometimes the details stand alone as little art pieces. I was so stoked when one of my brides approached me about my backyard honey for thank-you gifts. She ended up coming to my house and we filled jars together. Later, she made beautiful custom labels for the jars.

Great People

Of course, I could not do this work without the wonderful people who hired me. And I appreciate you. I feel honored to be invited to document special moments in your life. From the tiny family affairs, and the summer camp-inspired festivals, to the extravaganzas in the redwoods, and all the other ones in between. I love documenting your stories. Thank you.

I hope you have enjoyed these 100 images. I call them my 2023 best wedding photos, but they are just some of the photos that draw me in and resonate with me. Every year I make a 100-image post. If you want to look at last year’s, check it out here.
