Wine Lovers Wedding at Ru’s Farm in Healdsburg

New Traditions.

Weddings can be many things, and people hold these celebrations for different reasons.  Many of the people I work with have been living together for several years.  At least around here, in Northern California, most people forgo wedding traditions that feel do resonate with them. The evocative traditions continue to be used.  I feel that the modern wedding is about joining of families and communities. It is about celebrating the love and commitment that the couple personally know that they hold for one another. It about spreading the love.

I Want You to Spend Time With Your People on Your Wedding Day.

In recognition of this era of freedom, I try to allow things to flow naturally. I want my couples to spend as much time as possible with the people they have invited to their celebration.  I try to capture the essential feeling of the wedding, the emotionally packed moments, and the ephemeral.  In the end, my hope is to show a genuine, fun, artistically interesting story of the wedding day. It goes without saying, that this is a collaboration with the couple and their guests to create an enjoyable experience for all.

Do Family Pictures Before the Ceremony and Spend More Time with Your People.

I always try to limit the immediate family and wedding party pictures to just a few posed combinations which I take before the ceremony.  This allows folks to go directly into cocktail hour after the ceremony. People want to celebrate and eat and drink. I support that.  Any additional posed groupings should happen organically during the cocktail hour or reception.  I try to present myself as I truly am both in my personality and in my work. I want to stay true to myself and my clients while creating a trusting and positive working relationship.

Sometimes People Have Different Expectations.

This long preamble is a way of introducing a wedding that was beautiful and fun. Unfortunately, the bride and groom felt that I had failed to meet their expectations.  You can find her review of my work on Yelp.  The wedding was held at Ru’s Farm in Healdsburg, which is a fantastic little venue run by a wonderful couple.  It has beautiful views, well kept grounds, a gorgeous barn, mature trees and gardens, and is just big enough to accommodate a good crowd. It is small enough that you can walk from one end to the other in a short amount of time.  Luisa and John had a beautiful celebration on a hot day toward the end of June.  Their friends and family all brought wine, a live brass band rocked the house, and much merriment was had by all.
